Throughout my teenage years spent pouring over magazines, Cosmopolitan and InStyle and Glamour all made it perfectly clear that knowing how to go from DAY to NIGHT was a true cornerstone of womanhood.
The phrase, previously embedded deep in the recesses of my millenial brain, has been top of mind for me recently. I’ve decided Day To Night isn’t just an outfit. It’s a mindset. A lifestyle. A mood. A mantra.
Here 25 day-to-night things I’m wearing, bringing, buying, and doing this summer in the city.
Reversible tops. Business in the front, party in the back.
Keeping a colored eyeshadow in my purse.
Picking up champagne on the way to…anywhere.
A tank or bra or swimsuit top, worn with a button-down. Unbutton or remove the button-down as necessary.
A sparkly (like, really sparkly) lip gloss. Purchased on a whim at CVS for a little thrill.
Jelly sandles, but make them heeled. (Bonus: these ones are actually comfy.)
Bags in bags in bags in bags, to stash away the day. I recommend these waterproof ones if you are also a sweaty person who schleps gym clothes around.
Have been loving this shirt — reads like a polished white tee during the day, then a sexier vibe at night when unbuttoned (at the top and the bottom).
Putting my hair up in a pony with a big earring.
Taking my hair down. As I am always avoiding hair-wash day, I love to use Crown Affair’s leave-in conditioner on my DRY hair. Distribute it evenly on your ends, put your hair up in a clip or bun for a bit, then take it down for magic waves.
Taking off my watch.
Capris a la Carrie. Acquired these at the divine Shop Feels Good.
Sparkly/mesh mules. I’m waiting to find these in my size on TRR, but in the meantime, I grabbed these (on sale!).
Ordering a bitters and soda.
Ordering a 50/50 martini over ice. With a twist and an olive.
Wearing a little halter top with a big pant.
Putting my phone in my bag so I can’t look at it, turning on a song in headphones, and walking down the New York City streets as though I am in a music video.
A spritz from a rotating selection of perfume samples I keep in my bag to match my mood.
Jorts + heels. I’ve been wearing these every other day this summer. Size up for slouchy sexy.
Related: athletic shorts with a heel. Want to make these mine.
Having a hard stop at 6pm.
Planning to meet at a hotel bar. Current go-to’s: The Lobby Bar at the Chelsea Hotel, The Marlton, and The Fifth Avenue Hotel.
A spray of this for instant dewy fresh face.
Going to the Met on a Friday or Saturday evening, when it’s open until 9pm. Head straight for the roof, have a glass of wine in a plastic cup against the backdrop the Manhattan skyline, then go look at art for an hour, before you head off into the night for a late dinner and who knows what else. Ultimate day-to-night behavior.
